Kurukshetra is a district and city in the North Indian state of Haryana, situated around 170 km from Delhi. Kurukshetra is purported to be the site of the Kurukshetra war in the ancient Indian epic, Mahabharata. The name is derived from the name of King Kuru of the ancient Kuru Kingdom, and the word "kshetra" which means area or field.
